Benjamin Banneker Historical Park and Museum

The Benjamin Banneker Historical Park & Museum is one of Baltimore County’s hidden treasures. The county park’s 142 acres contain the home of Benjamin Banneker, one of the first African Americans to gain distinction in science. His significant accomplishments included successfully predicting a solar eclipse, publishing his own almanac, corresponding and helping to survey the original boundaries of Washington, D.C. View the museum’s permanent exhibits and explore the park’s trails. Free admission.

What We’re Having is fortunate that the park enables us to conduct open hearth cooking demonstration in their vintage cabin on the 3rd Saturday of every month. Targeting the year 1790, we use recipes from the time period and seasonally appropriate meats and vegetables that would have been available in the greater Patapsco Valley region.
Come visit on the 3rd Saturday of every month from Noon to 3 PM. No fee or reservation is required. Just stop by and see what rural cooking was like in the late 1700s. Or, try hearth cooking in one of the Foodways 1790 Hearth Cooking Workshops. For more information, contact us directly or email to bannekermuseum-rp@baltimorecountymd.gov..
